The Case for A Wisconsin Summer

The Midwest is calling (and I'm trying to get my friends to answer).

I’ve been thinking about how summer’s gotten a little competitive, with the weddings, the bachelorette moments, the upstate weekends… I needed to lock in some space on the group chat cal. This is me planting the seed. Whether you’re in New York or not, maybe it’ll spark your own group chat plan. I’m doing this in real-time…. I hope they’re down lol

I know it’s a big-ish ask. Leave the city for… the America’s Dairyland? Reserve a sacred summer weekend for the flyover states?

I’m aware everyone’s summer is booking up.
I’m also aware it’s not Chicago - it’s the deep woods. Up north Wisconsin, in a small town. Population: 2,584. Service might be spotty, but hey we’ll find something better… like a new favorite drink (Brandy Old Fashioned Sweet? Spotted Cow?) or maybe we’d even find some peace, baby!

I want to fully embrace lakelife this summer.

I can SEE it. It’s exactly the weekend we’ll be craving in July. A blend of comfort and adventure. Rest and relaxation.

Getting everyone to the lake might need a few bells and whistles added on the agenda. So to close the deal, I came prepared with three sparkling selling points:

  1. Lumberjack World Championships

  2. Freshwater Fish Hall of Fame

  3. Moccasin Bar

These activities key boxes: entertainment, absurdity, alcohol.

I made my friends a postcard. As I am personally familiar with how scary the new group chat + a novel-text combo can be.

And then I wrote them a little something:

Back of Postcard: feat. Lumberjack On Woodpile

This isn’t about roughing it - I’m not even sure if I can do that. It’s about reconnecting, its about discovering something new. It’s about seeking a bit of adventure that truly doesn’t require that much effort. Just a couple hours on a flight, a cabin booking, and well… tickets to the Lumberjack World Championships.

Fingers crossed. Manifesting “I’m in” texts as we speak.

Meet you there,
Abby
